The German Shepherd is a large and powerful working dog known for its intelligence, loyalty, and versatility. Typically weighing between 50 to 90 pounds (22 to 40 kg) and standing about 22 to 26 inches (56 to 66 cm) tall at the shoulder, German Shepherds have a strong, athletic build and a dense double coat that can come in various colors, most commonly black and tan.
Originally bred for herding, they are now widely used in various roles, including police, military, search and rescue, and as service dogs. Their high intelligence makes them highly trainable, but they require regular mental and physical exercise to stay happy and healthy.
